JOIN IN THE FUN by signing up for an instrumental music ensemble (7th and 8th grade) through the Study Hall Exploration Program. Students involved in a music group rehearse once a week with their chosen ensemble in place of one study hall session. 8th graders may also sign up for an Instrumental Music Elective in addition to a Study Hall Exploration Music Ensemble.
Orchestra Woodwind, brass, and string players learn and perform exciting and fun classical, contemporary, and movie music for concerts, assemblies, chapels, and other special events. Open to 7th and 8th graders. No audition necessary.
Jazz Ensembles Saxophone, trumpet, trombone, guitar, bass, drum, and piano players rehearse and perform jazz charts and develop improvisational skills. Students will learn how to improvise, “comp,” and play jazz standards, as well as contemporary jazz repertoire. Open to 7th and 8th graders. Audition required for guitar, bass, drum, and piano players.

This group will perform during a chapel and at the World Music Concert. Members of the group receive a commemorative “Steel PANdas” Jersey customized with their name on the back. This semester-long elective is for 8th graders and meets during a regularly scheduled block. (No prior experience or musical knowledge is necessary.)
World Drumming Whether you’re experienced or new to drumming, join this ensemble to learn influential drumming traditions from various parts of the globe including West Africa, Brazil, Cuba, Colombia, and Trinidad. During this course, you will learn how to play folkloric rhythms using an extensive collection of authentic instruments from these regions. This group will perform during a chapel, Grandparents Day, and at the two World Music concerts. This year-long Study Hall Exploration course meets once a week and is open to 7th graders.
