Visiting Artist Tanya Brodsky
Tanya Brodsky (b. Kyiv, Ukraine) is an artist and educator based in Los Angeles. As Visiting Artist in Residence during Semester One, Brodsky worked closely with sculpture and printmaking students to explore architecture as a narrative form.
Inspired by Invisible Cities by Italo Calvino, students responded to short fictional texts that treat cities as vessels for memory, desire, and imagined realities. In sculpture, students created architectural maquettes using cardboard, found objects, and model-making materials. Each structure functions as a fragment of a larger, imagined city where material choices and spatial decisions convey personal and fictional narratives.
In printmaking, students explored the built environment through the technique of dry-point etching, collage, and chine collé. Displayed together, the works reflect Brodsky’s emphasis on experimentation, storytelling, and the city as both a physical and psychological space.
Brodsky holds an MFA from UC San Diego and a BFA from RISD.
