Elementary School (Grades K-6)

Every day in elementary school is filled with hands-on activities, collaborative projects, and immersive learning experiences. Experienced faculty in each classroom deliver whole-group instruction, facilitate small-group collaboration, and provide differentiated learning to meet the unique needs of each student.

Students build confidence and academic skills through class presentations, reading and writing workshops, and optional enrichment opportunities like our annual Science Fair, WordMasters challenges, and the Continental Math League (CML). They also have the chance to pursue their interests through activities such as chess and grade-level book clubs.

Our elementary school follows a five-day rotating cycle, allowing students to explore a wide array of academic subjects and areas of interest that provide an exceptional educational foundation.

Students receive daily instruction in language arts, math, science, and social studies. In addition, students receive instruction in the following areas of focus under the guidance of specialist teachers: Lab Science, Library, Music, Physical Education (daily), Spanish (starting in grade 3), Technology, and Visual Arts

Childcare and Before/After-School Programs are open to K-6 students, providing an opportunity for extended play and participation in a wide variety of programs.

The Kindergarten Experience

Kindergarten is a time of joyful discovery. In each of our two kindergarten classrooms, a lead teacher and an associate teacher ignite the curiosity and wonder of our youngest learners. They nurture inquiry-based learning through engaging hands-on activities and developmentally appropriate concepts that build a strong academic foundation.

Beyond academics, kindergarten students develop essential social-emotional skills through a structured curriculum that includes the Harmony and Toolbox programs, as well as through activities such as council practice. Every day is filled with exploration and growth in a nurturing environment that encourages curiosity, confidence, and resilience.

The Sixth Grade Experience

In each of the three sixth grade classrooms, lead teachers in language arts, math, social studies, and science deliver a specialized academic program that appropriately challenges students and prepares them for middle school. Engaging projects, such as creating a roller coaster model in lab science—where students learn about and apply the laws of physics while exploring their creativity through design—are plentiful in the sixth grade.

As role models of the elementary school, sixth graders take on additional responsibilities, including serving as pals to kindergarten students, leading in chapel, and, for those elected, serving as student council leaders.

Memorable milestones further define the sixth grade year, from showcasing their work in a special art exhibit in the Campbell Hall Gallery to performing original, collaborative Greek plays, culminating in the celebratory sixth grade promotion.

Importantly, sixth grade students automatically matriculate to middle school, eliminating the stress and anxiety that can come with school transitions. This continuity allows students to focus on their learning and personal growth, encouraging them to explore new interests and take risks in a supportive environment where they can thrive.

  • Learning the Language of Math

Since 2008, the elementary school has implemented Math in Focus, the U.S. edition of the Singapore Math program, which emphasizes mastering math through problem solving. The program moves students through sequential, scaffolded instruction. Students begin with concrete systems, such as tangible manipulatives, transition to visual models, and eventually engage with abstract concepts. This approach builds a strong foundation for understanding more complex equations and theories in higher levels of math.

Gardening has been a cherished part of the Kindergarten experience for decades. What began as simple lessons in planting and learning about garden helpers has blossomed into a vibrant, cross-grade program that nurtures both plants and young minds.
