#CHTeacherTuesday

Robe Roberson, High School English
How long have you been a teacher?
I've done many things and have stepped away from education a few times...so somewhere around 20 years

How long have you been teaching at Campbell Hall?
I've been at Campbell Hall around 10 years...wow, a great place that feels like home!

What makes CH so special?
Campbell Hall is special because it has expectations that you be your real self while teaching and learning. Yup, teachers are equal learners. CH demands the curriculum between the lines of text, and between the classes, and between the moments. Campbell Hall is a love affair. You're either built to be here or you're not. Campbell Halls aspires to be a lighthouse...a pioneer...on the front lines of all our students need to be their best selves.

What do you love most about teaching at Campbell Hall?
It's fun despite a maddening pace. You realize how much students loved their experience because they slip past the gates they just escaped to say hello and inspire us to inspire the new batch of kids. They are doing real things out there past Laurel Canyon Boulevard. People pause and make eye contact. There is an effort to see everyone. A teacher can experiment with best teaching practices and be wrong and find a new and better way to educate where the kids really are today.

What is the most rewarding part of your CH day?
When you can see that you totally dropped a lesson that got into their hearts, and their brains are on fire, and their eyes can't hide it, their body language can't hide it, and the buzz of our class magic exits with them into their next class, and you hear their affectionate teenage language, "Whoa, that was a dope class!"

What do you love to do outside of school/what are your hobbies?
I run a new sports club called CITY. Right now it's just a volleyball club focusing on developing strong women who can thrive in any arena they're in. I love gardening and learning the art of California indoor/outdoor living. I'm working on an outdoor pizza oven with Mr. WIlliams in the STEAM program.
I seek out music all over the city. I'm a drummer so I’m driven by beats. I like car shows and prototype cars and 60s muscle cars. Beach. Beach. Beach. With my best friend Tatenda.

If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why?
I'd be the master of the essence of Time. No cape. But definitely want the one piece unitard teflon suit with built in muscle.

Is there a quote or saying that you live your life by?
"Get your love right and all else will fall into place." I've failed a bunch at this and am trying to get it right this time. I want to make my grandmother proud as she's the voice of such great words. Love and miss her.
