Boys Basketball Opens Winter With Two Wins

Boys Basketball got the Vikings winter sports off to a fantastic start Tuesday night with two wins over Oakwood.

JV began the night with a dominant victory over Oakwood, 60-20.  The Vikings played tremendous team defense, holding the Gorillas to just seven points in the first half of the game.  The defense was not the only powerful part of the night for the JV Vikings, the offense more than doubled their score in the second half - finshing the first half with 25 points and ending the game with 60.

Varsity had a back and forth game for three quarters, but the Vikings pulled away in the fourth to beat Oakwood, 73-56.  The Vikings jumped out to an early lead, beating the Gorillas by six with about two minutes to go in the first quarter.  Oakwood stormed back to tie up the game 20-20 going into the second quarter.  Two minutes into the second quarter the Vikings had taken the lead back, going up by five.  The lead would not last, however. The Gorillas took a one-point lead going into the half-time break, 34-33.

The second half was a much more comfortable affair for Vikings Basketball players and fans, alike.  The Vikings took a three-point lead right away over Oakwood to open the second half, maintaining a five point distance throughout the third quarter.  The fourth quarter saw the Vikings pull away from the Gorillas, finalizing the win with a 73-58 score.

Sophomore Chris Hammond led the Vikings with 20 points, he also had five rebounds, four blocks, three assists and two outstanding dunks in the game.  Senior Khalil Glover-Dodson had 18 of his own points, grabbed four rebounds and had a break away dunk for the Vikings.  Freshman Isaiah Brewington had 12 points, six rebounds and two blocks.

Great start to the winter season Basketball Vikings!
