I Have a Dream Foundation “Dream Big” Workshops in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM)
The “I Have A Dream” Foundation works with students in under-resourced public schools or housing projects. They offer these “Dreamers” mentoring and support services from early elementary school all the way through high school.
After high school graduation, each Dreamer receives guaranteed tuition assistance for higher education as well as continued support on their college journey. In Los Angeles, they serve three cohorts: 3rd graders in Boyle Heights, 8th graders in Watts, and high schoolers in Inglewood.
To support the work of IHAD, Campbell Hall launched their partnership with “Dream Big,” a STEAM-themed event filled with workshops designed and conducted by CH teachers. Eighty Dreamers participated in hands-on activities related to science, technology, engineering, arts, and math. Elementary students shot rockets, hacked the news, and built geometric sculptures. Middle schoolers composed music on iPads, engineered towers, and made ice cream. The high school students chose either the engineering strand to design and fly gliders and program robots, or the TV strand to produce a dating show in the studio. The day culminated with a raucous TV premiere.
I Have a Dream is a long-term commitment based on a personal relationship with each Dreamer. The next step is for Campbell Hall students to engage in programs together so all students can learn from each other.
