Students Preserve Joshua Tree Trails

The 10th grade’s experiential education trip to Joshua Tree each year is a way for students to enjoy local nature while building strong relationships with classmates and faculty. In addition to rock climbing, hiking, and learning about desert ecology, the 10th grade class also gives back to this national park through service learning.

Students spent one day cleaning up trails to help maintain the natural beauty of Joshua Tree as well as to help preserve the environment. Litter is not only a blight for other campers who want to enjoy the park, but can also contaminate water sources and harm wildlife.
Visited by over 2 million people each year, Joshua Tree is an iconic and much-loved national park. Learning how to minimize their trace on the local ecology while camping, this trip to the high desert gave 10th graders the opportunity to be environmental stewards by protecting these important trails.
