Calculus

(1-YEAR CLASS)
This math course is designed for students wishing to learn the basic principles of calculus and typically covers a one-semester college course. The course includes theory and evaluation techniques of limits, derivatives, and integrals involving algebraic, trigonometric, logarithmic, and exponential functions. Students apply these tools to solve problems such as local linearization, related rates, optimization, and analysis of graphs of functions. Students develop their problem-solving skills and ability to generate clear, precise mathematical arguments. Students are expected to communicate their mathematical thinking through numeric, graphic, and analytic avenues. Graphing calculators, calculator-based applications, and computer software are used to illustrate and enhance topics covered throughout the year. (Elective course. Prerequisite: B or higher in Precalculus with Trigonometry, or A- or higher in Fundamentals of Precalculus, or placement test.)
