The Scientific Method

Students understand and retain information best when they can connect it to their own lives. Hands-on learning enhances this connection by engaging them directly with the material. This 7th grade scientific method project achieves both by guiding students through designing experiments in topics that are of interest to them. This scaffolded approach builds essential skills and prepares students for success in future courses, including Biology in 9th grade.
Working collaboratively in small groups, students develop hypotheses, outline experimental procedures, collect the necessary materials and gather valuable data from their participants. Each experiment requires one independent variable, two dependent variables, and several control variables.

This project helps 7th grade students develop analytical skills and mirror real-world scientists by conducting their own research and reporting their findings in a polished presentation delivered to the whole class. Most importantly, it encourages students to explore topics they care about and deepen their interest in science.
