#CHTeacherTuesday

Kathy Jones, Sixth Grade Humanities Teacher
How long have you been a teacher?
I have been teaching for 15 years.

How long have you been teaching at Campbell Hall?
This is my first year teaching at Campbell Hall, although I have been a part of the CH community for a while now. My daughter Cece graduated CH Class of 2015 and her brother/my son graduated CH Class of 2017.

What do you love most about teaching at Campbell Hall?
My students! The Mighty, Mighty Sixth Graders. Does teaching get any better than sixth grade humanities? What a privilege it is to work with young people in this way. I get to lead a band of energetic, creative, young minds on a dramatic journey of discovery. Together, we get to question, probe, dig around, and challenge stories of the human condition. Even in a pandemic, from the confines of our virtual classroom, we get to explore worlds, build worlds, and yes, even take a stab at fixing worlds. Need to renew your faith in the future of the human race? Check out a few sixth grade personal narratives. There, you will find thoughtful reflections from young writers well on their way to finding their voices. Need a little perspective? Check out the sixth grade book reports to get an idea of what matters to them. Need a little levity in your day? Pop into a sixth grade discussion about Greek mythology. I promise, hilarity will ensue. For these reasons and more, I love teaching at Campbell Hall ... even in the midst of a pandemic.

What drew you to teaching?
Years ago, I followed my biological children into kindergarten and never looked back. I fell in love with school all over again, and before I knew what was happening, teaching became my third career, after first, a brief stint in sales engineering and later, a longer stint in film/tv production.
