Building Multi-Cultural Community: Developing an Anti-Racist White Identity

Jason David
January 30, 2018

Jason David co-founded the Alliance of White Anti-Racists Everywhere Los Angeles (AWARE-LA) 13 years ago as a white anti-racist affinity group space for dialogue that grew into a grassroots, all-volunteer organization that now includes a summer institute and activist wing.
He facilitates workshops and dialogues that focus on inclusion, equity and diversity as well as developing white anti-racist knowledge, skills and identity. For white people, race and racism continue to be social phenomena that are incredibly influential in shaping our lives and communities, tremendously confusing and challenging to talk about, and frustratingly misunderstood - all simultaneously. This presentation will explore some of the significant factors that affect white people's abilities to look at race and whiteness squarely and honestly. It will also offer pathways and encouragement for doing so, a critical step to take in fostering inclusive, equitable, and multicultural communities. Join us for this important conversation that will help lead us forward as guides and mentors to our children on this most relevant topic of our times.
