The ABCD Lab creates space for thoughtful, focused, equity-minded K-12 teachers to come together for an intensive week of professional learning, curriculum development and personal growth. Over the course of a week, participants redesign a unit from their own curriculum using the Social Justice Standards (SJS) framework and the Anti-bias Learning by Design (AbD) model. Through a structured hands-on experience of inquiry, application, practice and coaching, participants gain a deeper understanding of the SJS and learn how to implement the standards in their curriculum through the 4-stages of AbD. The ABCD Lab facilitates a community of practice where teachers support and inspire one another using a “think tank” model that includes time for independent and collaborative work. Teachers leave the Lab having developed their own ready-to-implement anti-bias unit plan and with tools for ongoing curriculum improvement.
The Campbell Hall ABCD Lab is for educators interested in developing an anti-bias curriculum.
Campbell Hall 4533 Laurel Canyon Blvd., Studio City, CA 91607
As a school deeply committed to anti-bias education, Campbell Hall uses social justice standards as a gateway to reinforce its dedication to diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice (DEIJ). Every teacher at Campbell Hall has undergone training in the social justice standards, and all students from grades 3-12 have had at least one class experience with a redesigned curriculum incorporating these standards. This approach not only strengthens our faculty, already experts in their respective fields but also enhances their ability to implement the social justice standards in their teaching. This firm commitment to DEIJ inspired Campbell Hall to welcome other schools and educators interested in exploring a similar approach to curriculum redesign.
