#CHTeacherTuesday

Elena Malone / CHAI Modern World History,

How long have you been a teacher?
18 years

How long have you been teaching at Campbell Hall?
15 years

What do you love most about teaching at Campbell Hall?
At Campbell Hall, I love the flexibility that comes along with having a supportive community. If you can dream it, CH will most likely help you do it. I have stretched my abilities at CH more than I ever thought I could. The encouragement to take risks and continually keep learning is something that is both a joy and a challenge.

What do you love to do outside of school?
When I am not teaching I like to be outdoors, practicing yoga, dancing, eating, cooking, and traveling. I have two young children, Ruby and Amos. Ruby attends CH as a kindergartener and Amos is 3. I spend a good portion of my time being especially silly with them.

What is the most rewarding part of your day?
It doesn’t happen every day, but I will often run into a student that I taught as a sophomore when that individual is a senior. It is so satisfying to chat about their time at CH and reflect back on who they were just a few short years ago, and who they have become. It’s very satisfying to see the considerate and thoughtful person they have become. I enjoy hearing about what they remember from our class together and what their plans are for after CH. In that same vein, I love hearing about all the adventures that my former students have embarked upon when they come back to visit CH. Recently, at Back to School Night a parent of a former student came in to tell me that her son was inspired to become a lawyer after taking my AP US Government. He had recently been married and was living a full and happy life. It was such a treat to hear this good news. That’s the kind of thing that makes my job especially rewarding.
