#CHTeacherTuesday

David Turner / MS English + Secondary Technology Integration Specialist

Subject(s) You Teach/Title/Department:
I teach My So-Called Life, which is the accelerated English class for 8th graders. I also teach a life skills elective called Lifehacking, and I’m a technology integration specialist for grades 7-12.

How long have you been a teacher?
This is my 13th year of teaching, and all of them have been at CH. I started the same time these seniors started kindergarten! My wife and I both teach in the middle school, and both of our sons are in elementary school here, so we love being a CH family.

What is the most rewarding part of your CH day?
The most rewarding part of my day is helping middle school students find their voices in their writing. I also love showing them books that expand their worldview and having discussions with them about how the literature we read acts as both a mirror and a window for their lives.

Is there a quote or saying that you live your life by?
On the series finale of The Office, one character says something like, “I wish there was a way to know you were living in the good old days before they were over,” so my wife and I often say to each other that “these are the good old days.” It helps me to start each day with a sense of gratitude and to appreciate everything we have here.
