Katelyn Mulcahy ’15

Photographer Katelyn Mulcahy ’15 secured a highly coveted internship at Getty Images.
After graduating from University of Michigan-Ann Arbor in May 2019, Katelyn flew to Houston and began working for the Major League Baseball (MLB) covering Minute Maid Park, home to the Houston Astros. Her job as a Live Content Creator (LCC) is to cover both teams and provide content to MLB which they distribute to both the home and visiting team throughout the games. With the Astros in the World Series, Katelyn will be shooting at the home games! She will then embark on the highly coveted internship at Getty Images.

“I started off learning on film and working in the darkroom before the new Spielberg Arts and Education Center was built. After it was built, I took more classes and couldn't get enough of it. I loved seeing images develop and rapidly started taking pictures of everything; I photographed friends, dances, shoots for the satire and humor magazine at the time, the Campbell Soup, as well as sports. By the time I was a sophomore, I was bringing my camera to school nearly every day. I actually started off photographing baseball (JV and Varsity) as well as softball and it just melded into as many sports as possible (volleyball, basketball, etc.). I was so grateful to the athletic department for letting me photograph the games, even once traveling to a championship basketball game. Funny enough I just checked and those photos are actually still on the Facebook page! I followed the same path in college, joining the newspaper and photographing nearly every sport I could. Still hard to believe it all but I'm grateful to have had such a supportive beginning at CH! I wouldn't be at the World Series now without the resources and mentorship available to me then.”
