Caliburnus
Caliburnus, the Campbell Hall literary magazine, seeks to publish the best and boldest artistic works, literary and otherwise, produced by Campbell Hall high school students.
We publish original stories, poems, plays, creative nonfiction, photographs, drawings, and audio recordings created by high school students at Campbell Hall. New selections appear throughout the year on the CH Caliburnus Tumblr page. As befitting a bold and authentic publication by and for teens, the material is intended for a mature audience. At the end of the year, we collect all the literary work that has appeared on the page, along with additional submissions, and produce a printed journal.
How are submissions selected?
Typically, submissions come from current and former members of the creative writing program, though we welcome them from anyone who is interested. We are non-competitive--that is, we can publish as many outstanding pieces as we receive--but we are selective, mostly to protect students. The quality level tends to be pretty high because of the seriousness of the program and the commitment of our writers, and so we will often engage in a process of suggested editing and revision with potential contributors. What we do not do is limit students in terms of genre or style. We are committed to recognizing and nurturing outstanding work wherever we can find it.
Why do you publish work on a Tumblr platform?
Our selection was based on the best combination of ease of use, efficiency, and accessibility. We needed a page we could attach lots of different kinds of media to, and that viewers could navigate easily.
Is there a digital version of the printed journal?
There is no digital version at the moment, though roughly 75% of the literary content in the magazine can be found on the webpage. We are leaving all submissions archived and easily accessible on the page.

We want to respect the creativity and need for artistic freedom of our high school students. Therefore, Caliburnus really is designed as a publication written and meant to be read by high school-aged students and older. You can view the published work on chcaliburnus.tumblr.com.
