Developing a Diversity Responsive Curriculum

Five CH educators spent a full day examining ways to apply theories of anti-bias education to their work, adapt curricula to be more responsive to the students in the classroom, and workshop case studies.
Catherine Siphron, High School English teacher, says, “The main takeaway was the importance of students feeling seen in the classroom. In an English course, this, in part, means including literature that acts both as a mirror for students so they see themselves in the characters and as a window where they can learn from others. It was a great reminder about the importance of diversity and how it fosters learning by creating a safe space for all students. The speaker and participants offered up rich resources, so I left inspired to explore additional inclusive texts.”
