Campbell Hall’s Commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice

Campbell Hall actively provides teachers with opportunities to deepen their knowledge of vital social justice and anti-bias education topics, engage in critical conversations about how to disrupt systems of oppression, and embark on the essential journey of understanding one’s own identity and how it informs one’s pedagogy and practices.

• Since 2009, Campbell Hall has served on the board of SoCal PoCIS to support and develop educational programming, seminars, and conferences on diversity and inclusion topics for independent schools in Southern California.

• Since 2012, Campbell Hall has hosted and facilitated the Inclusion Institute, a four-day professional development experience created specifically for Campbell Hall faculty and staff to engage more deeply in discussions about various diversity topics, strengthen curricular connections, create inclusive pedagogy, and develop critical skills for supporting student success. In our most recent Strategic Plan, we committed to the goal of training all faculty and staff at the Inclusion Institute by 2023.

• Since 2015, Campbell Hall has offered monthly, year-long SEED (Seeking Educational Equity and Diversity) seminars for faculty and staff. To date, more than 60 CH faculty and staff members have participated in a year-long SEED seminar.

• In 2018, we began a comprehensive K-12 curriculum inquiry and revisioning. Our goal is to ensure that students in all grades have a curriculum that is not only multicultural, gender-balanced, and globally aware, but also that actively teaches students to disrupt bias, seek justice, and take action. To this end, 11 elementary school faculty members and all 7th-12th grade English and History teachers attended a two-day Teaching Tolerance seminar, were trained on the Social Justice Framework, and learned how to examine curriculum through the lenses of identity, diversity, justice, and action. 

• This past April, eight faculty members who serve as student affinity group mentors participated in a virtual two-day training held by CATDC to deepen and strengthen the affinity group programming we currently offer to our students in grades 7-12.

• For more than three decades, Campbell Hall has supported faculty and staff attendance at the People of Color Conference hosted by NAIS and has sent student delegates to the concurrent Student Diversity Leadership Conference for more than 20 years.

Campbell Hall will not tire of truly learning to love our neighbors, bravely and humbly examining our actions and our histories, and boldly envisioning and working towards being the beloved community that our maker intends us to be. We invite you to join us in that exciting work.
