#CHTeacherTuesday

Lee Wilhoite / Secondary Dance + Artistic Director of CH Reparatory Dance Company

How long have you been a teacher?
17 years

How long have you been teaching at Campbell Hall?
12 years

What do you love most about teaching at Campbell Hall?
It’s hard to pick just one thing that I love most above all else at Campbell Hall, but my amazing colleagues are who come to mind first. There are so very many smart, funny, friendly and supportive faculty and staff here at CH.

What do you love to do outside of school/what are your hobbies?
I craft quite a bit. I’m often making things to use in my productions such as props and headpieces. Sometimes I think I should open an Etsy store, but who has the time for that?! I also go hiking, camping and go to the beach as much as possible.

What is the most rewarding part of your CH day?
The most rewarding part of my day is the moment when a correction I’ve been giving a student works for them and they have the ‘aha’ moment and their face lights up.

What inspires you?
Music has always inspired me. Music tells a story or expresses emotion regardless of whether there are lyrics or not. Music ignites the storyteller in me. I respond equally to strong multi-layered melodies as I do to simple phrases. It’s all in the ebb and flow of orchestration. I also love a good power ballad with heavy guitar and drums! My focus on other tasks I am trying to accomplish is susceptible to music. When I hear music I automatically start choreographing in my head. Which is why, for instance, I don’t listen to music to relax and fall asleep!
