Parent Mindfulness Group

The Campbell Hall Parent Mindfulness Group invites all parents and guardians to a series of morning sessions to deepen or begin a mindfulness practice. Sessions begin with a guided meditation followed by instruction on topics such as authentic parenting, connecting more deeply with our kids, the development of meditative skills for managing stress and reactivity, connecting and communicating more effectively with our kids, maintaining a daily practice, etc., all while building community with fellow parents. Led by Laurie Cousins, a highly experienced teacher in mindfulness and parent education, the series are free of charge. Guest speakers include Catherine Siphron-Singer and Patrick Sweeney*.

  • February 26 – Robin Fogelman

With the goal of being a calm mom with a sense of humor, Robin decided to take the 8-week Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) course offered by InsightLA. MBSR gave Robin a different perspective on life and sparked a daily meditation practice. Excited to share her new insights, Robin started a meditation group for parents at her children’s elementary school, and even taught mindfulness meditation to her daughter’s 5th grade class. Another big part of Robin’s life has been the parenting group she started 16 years ago led by Ruth Beaglehole, founder of Echo Parenting. Her group is committed to raising their children in an environment that encourages empathy, fosters emotional intelligence and discourages punishment. Robin is constantly moved by the parallels between the practice of mindfulness and parenting with these values. She feels that her meditation practice has deepened her experience as a mother and given her a greater appreciation for everything around her.
  • March 5 – Lara Plutte

With more than twenty-five years of formal and informal meditation practice, Lara Plutte now leads parents in the practice of Mindfulness. It was when Lara became a mom, 15 years ago, that mindfulness meditation became her poignant practice. Lara has steeped herself since in mindfulness meditation to support the deep desire to be present for, accept, even embrace the wild ride of parenthood. Lara now combines her experience as a social worker, a mom and mindfulness teacher to lead parents in support of being present. Lara has a Masters in Social Work and the Arts, is a graduate of the InsightLA Facilitator Training Program, and a wife and mom to two boys, two cats and one crazy love fest of a dog.
