Literature of the French-Speaking World: an online course for high school students
(September 2010 to June 2011)

Students are introduced to a formal study of literary texts written by diverse French-speaking authors from the 16 th to 20th century. Students will analyze the form and content of literary works from different perspectives using pertinent concepts and relevant terminology. The course emphasizes historical context and asks the students to reflect on how each literary work relates to their own lives. The course demands a high level of written proficiency in French language, and strong oral skills are also required for comprehension of some instructional resources and for synchronous class discussions. Class activities appeal to creativity and demand collaboration, and the course resources are extensive, precise, and manageable. Email and online forums provide individualized support for student work, in addition to the mandatory, live online session conducted by the teacher weekly.

Improvisation for 2nd-3rd grade
(8 Tuesdays, starting September 7th, 2:45pm -3:45pm)

Through mostly comedic improvisations and improvisation games, students will take initiative and instantaneously create colorful characters, settings and dialogue. They will also practice the “give and take” of stage work, learning that an actor must listen and work with the other actors on stage, while at the same time, developing their own stage presence. The goal of the class is to encourage each child to have fun discovering their own inherent talent, expression, and sense of humor!

(8 Fridays, starting September 10th, 1:30pm - 2:30pm)

This course will focus on comedic and dramatic improvisations, and will be geared toward encouraging students to fully commit to their creative choices and to take leadership opportunities. The more advanced warm-ups, as well as the games and exercises, will aid in a greater focus on the individual (while continuing with group work). The class offers a very fun and safe place where students experience the joy of learning about who they are as unique, distinctive artists.
