My Friend's Place, Hollywood

Support for Homeless Teens

My Friend's Place in Hollywood "assists and inspires homeless youth to build self-sufficient lives." In l988 a volunteer-led, mobile meal program to distribute sack lunches to homeless youth in Hollywood was the start of what has become the most-frequently visited drop-in Resource Center for homeless youth in Southern California, serving over 1,800 youth ages 12 to 25 and their children, each year. Needs and challenges go well beyond the critical condition of hunger and are met by over 500 volunteers and collaboration with leading social service providers and educational institutions in the region. Counseling, job training, rehabilitation, and health services are a few of the things provided by this agency.

99% privately funded, My Friend's Place strives to be a welcoming, non-judgmental place which minimizes the psychological, physical, and social barriers that typically deter youth from seeking and accepting assistance from a social service agency.
