JV Boys Volleyball - JV Wins again! Vikings took control of the match from the beginning to the end.
Tonight the Vikings made the trek over to Pasadena to take on Maranatha. With a strong crowd behind the team, the Vikings were victorious in 2 games. Jake Howard's setting led the team, while Max Jacobson, Dylan Smith, and Sean Holahan's hitting and blocking out of the middle proved unstoppable. The first game, the team looked like a brand new team! The passes were on target and our offensive transitions looked good, Vikings took that game 25-12. In the second game both teams were rallying back and forth and the score was often tied or with-in one point until the Vikings, led my Captain Alex Johnson, eventually pulled away to a solid victory, 25-22. Schuyler Haskell and Nat O'toole were instrumental on defense, while Michael Larson and Scott Thompson both contributed key defensive digs. Up next the Vikings have a game at Providence High school on March 23.
JV Boys Volleyball - JV was the opening act of a JV/Varsity double headers. JV entertained the visiting Flint. Prep at home. Vikings got their fans on the their feet with a 9-0 runs in the first game. Then, Vikings gave up a few runs to the opponent and could not sustain to another 9-0 runs to tie the game. Young Vikings tried new methods by serving the ball more precise to earn some more points and attacked on the opponent's weak side defense. The 2nd game became more uplifting with the new, refreshing way of attacks. Eventually, the outcome did not favor the Vikings and the final scores were two game to zero.
JV Boys Volleyball - Vikings made a long road trip to the heart of Rosemead, CA. to take on Bosco Tech. In the first game, the outcome of the game came down to serves and serve receives. And in the second game, the better team also had tremendous velocity on their spikes and better ball controls than the other. Vikings made great effort to sustain long rallies but could not block those heavy spikes. Vikings' victory was within the premise in the 2nd game, but unfortunately it concluded in a lost of two games to zero.

Vikings made improvement from first game to second game after finding more consistency on serves and passings. Thank you parents for the snacks and also managers for bringing cupcakes for the players to enjoy after a hard fought 2nd game.

In a tough double round robin pool play, Campbell Hall took the court and battled Torrance High School in a see-saw battle in the first match. Vikings split one a game a piece. In the 2nd match, the Vikings faced the #1 seeded team from Saugus High School. The fearless Vikings swept the #1 seeded team which featured 6 different game-points in the first game. The final winning scores were 30 to 28 and 25 to 18. A 2nd place finish in pool play took the Vikings to the prestigious "Gold" Division playoff bracket. Varsity Boys Volleyball - Campbell Hall Volleyball Summer Conditioning Program
The summer is a great time to improve your conditioning. It is important to your athletic success that you continue your conditioning throughout the off-season. It would be unfortunate to lose the conditioning/strength gains that you made during the school year if you did not complete an off-season conditioning/strength program. Our date will be June 15, 2009 until July 21, 2009. Practice will be: Monday thru Thursday 4:00pm- 6:00pm at Garver Gym Summer League Tournament will be held at Crescenta Valley High School Address: 2900 Community Ave., La Crescenta CA. 91214 Tournament Dates: June 23, 25, 30 July 2, 7, 9, 14, 16, All Matches played at 6:30pm Championships: July 21* Note: Campbell Hall does not provide transportation to the summer league tournaments.
The Campbell Hall Volleyball Summer Conditioning Program includes exercises that have been thoroughly researched to provide you with a workout regime to increase strength, agility, speed, quickness and cardiovascular fitness. As well I am planning to have volleyball tournaments twice a week against other high school programs. There will be a summer fee TBA a later date. The fee will pay for the tournaments, 2 t-shirts, refs and volleyballs. My plan is to play twice a week and practice 3 times a week depending of gym availability
Goals of the Program 1. Establish a routine of training to improve your physical conditioning. Make conditioning a part of your daily routine – year around. 2. Injury Prevention. A well conditioned athlete is less likely to be injured and if he is injured he will recover quickly for the next competition 3. Improve Work Capacity. A well-conditioned athlete can handle high quality work and recover quickly for the next competition. 4. Strive for balanced muscular development. Strengthen the muscles as they are needed for optimum performance. Remember you are training to compete as an athlete in competitive volleyball. 5. Improve your “Core Strength”. The strength of the abdomen, low back, and hips is essential to transfer the force generated by the legs to the upper body. 6. To help each person to know and to understand their strengths and weaknesses in order to help Maximize Potential (If skills are equal between you and other players, strength can help propel you past your opponents).

Varsity Softball - The weekend came to an end with the Vikings coming home with the 2nd place trophy in the Las Vegas Tournament. The girls played with all their heart and never let down but we came up just one game short. The weekend started off with a blast. We beat the number one seed of the tournament, Faith Lutheran 8-3 and then continued to win throughout the day by beating Bishop Gorman 8-7 and we followed up the day with our last win over Lake Oswego 7-3. Going into Saturday as of now the number one seed in the tournament, we played our first game against Faith Lutheran. After defeating Faith Lutheran the day before we knew this was not going to be an easy win but we played hard and came through with an amazing win 11-1 to send us to the championship game. The championship game was set. It was the California Campbell Hall Vikings to vs. the Oregon Lake Oswego Lakers at 4:45. The game was a thriller. Both teams played amazing defense. Out after out, making routine and non routine plays one after another. It was a great game to watch. But the fourth inning came and the Lakers finally broke through and busted the game open to have a 7-0 lead, and that was final. The Vikings lost 7-0. They came up short by one game. But over all the weekend was a winning weekend. Winning 4 out of the 5 games is defiantly a good weekend for our Vikings.

WAY TO GO!!!!!!!
JH Football - Nutrition!
Start to develop good habits now rather than later. You will need adequate fuel and recovery time to maintain optimal performance in school (athletically and academically). While we are all at the mercy of the time schedules we are committed to, we can control how we fuel up for the day.
Eat breakfast! If not a full breakfast with carbohydrates and proteins, at the very least, have a glass of juice, a fruit or something with some natural sugar in it first thing in the morning. This helps your body replace any blood sugar used/lost while sleeping.
Drink water! Eat snacks throughout the day! Drink more water!
Eat lunch! Avoid especially fibrous foods during lunch, since it is most likely the last meal before practice/games and you don't want to irritate your digestive system.
Eat Dinner! Drink water before bed!
In general eat a lot of food, but please try to avoid deep fried foods and processed sugars (get your sugar naturally as much as possible from the fruits, vegetables and starches you consume).
Establish routines that work for you, but make the most of your time. Have the courage to sacrifice a little leisure time to concentrate on taking care of yourself, which includes your studies, athletics and time to rest and recover. Whether you have a test, homework assignment, project, practice or game, food, water and sleep are essential.
DRINK WATER BEFORE PRACTICE ALL DAY!!!...not just 1/2 an hour before!
Go Vikings!
