Grades k-2 Expectancies

The Campbell Hall Technology Expectancies draw upon the most recent ISTE Technology Standards which emphasize 21st century learning such as: creativity, critical thinking, and innovation. Within this wider context, students should be able to demonstrate the following computer skills by the completion of second grade:

Database

• To create new records within
• To perform a simple query

General Skills

• Exhibit strong mouse skills (e.g. click, double-click, click and drag)
• Practice typing at 8 WPM at 90% accuracy
• Appropriately use utility keys (space bar, shift, delete, etc)
• Know and use keyboard shortcuts for common tasks
• How various digital devices work (printers, robots, viruses, GPS)

Graphics/Illustration

• Know and use a variety of illustration tools
• Apply concepts of art and graphic design (color, balance, contrast, etc)

Internet

• Locate and use hyperlinks to navigate to and within curricular resources
• Locate relevant information on topics not covered by print resources 
• Evaluate and download suitable images to complement work 

Operating System

• Turn on/off the computer
• Log in/out of the homeroom computer account
• Launch and exit desired software
• Save and retrieve computer-based documents
• Comply with general school guidelines when using computer resources
• Navigate the school website to access curricular resources

Presentation/Multimedia

• Apply concepts of language arts, mathematics, and science as necessary
• Select and use the most appropriate on-screen tool/effect for a specific task.
• Construct group multimedia projects for audiences outside the classroom

Programming

• Select and use the most appropriate on-screen tool for a given task.
• Gather information from a designated website.

Spreadsheet

• List information and categorize information
• Create simple graphs and charts

Word Processing

• Add, delete and modify words
• Student can accurately type his/her full name with appropriate capitalization
• Understand and use the Grammar-Check and Spell-Check tools
• Change text appearance (font, size, style, color)
