Grades 9-12 Expectancies

Upon completion of Grade 12 students should be able to exhibit the following technology related skills.

1. Students use digital media and environments to communicate and work collaboratively, including at a distance, to support individual learning and contribute to the learning of others. Students:

  • interact, collaborate, and publish with peers, experts, and others employing a variety of digital environments and media.
  • Complete an advanced library catalog search.
  • use the Internet effectively to investigate perspectives and subjects not heavily covered in print.
  • develop cultural understanding and global awareness by engaging with learners of other cultures.
  • contribute to project teams to produce original works or solve problems.

2. Students understand human, cultural, and societal issues related to technology and practice legal and ethical behavior. Students:

  • advocate and practice safe, legal, and responsible use of information technology.
  • exhibit a positive attitude using technology that supports collaboration, learning and productivity.
  • demonstrate personal responsibility for lifelong learning.
  • exhibit leadership in the field of digital citizenship.
  • identify and define authentic problems and significant questions for investigation.

3. Use technology tools for academic and personal productivity in the areas of communication, schedules, purchases, correspondence, and finance. Students:

  • use faculty web pages to communicate information and utilize class resources.
  • use online discussion forums to further in-class work and communication.
  • synthesize and communicate project data using technology tools such as web pages, and other presentation tools.
  • make effective use of the network personal folder for effective storage of work and other resources.
  • select and use applications effectively and productively.

4. Select and apply technology tools for research, information analysis, problem-solving, and decision making in proposing solutions to real-world problems. Students:

  • process data and report results.
  • use Internet search engines effectively.
  • correctly cite electronic resources.
  • use the online library catalog.
  • locate, organize, analyze, evaluate and synthesize information from a variety of sources and media.
  • evaluate and select information sources and digital tools appropriate to specific tasks.

 5. Identify appropriate software and hardware solutions for addressing lifelong learning and workplace needs. Students will:

  • troubleshoot systems and applications.
  • transfer current knowledge to learning of new technologies.
  • collect and analyze data to identify solutions and make informed decisions.
  • create basic web page designs in the context of project presentations.
  • use multiple processes and diverse perspectives to explore alternative solutions.
