Grades 7-8 Expectancies
Upon completion of Grade 8 students should be able to exhibit the following technology related skills:
1. Digital Citizenship. Students understand human, cultural, and societal issues related to technology and practice legal and ethical behavior. Students:
- show awareness of and compliance with the Campbell Hall Acceptable Use Policy.
- advocate and practice safe, legal, and responsible use of information technology.
- understand intellectual property rights (e.g. downloading music, copying software, etc.).
- exhibit a positive attitude using technology that supports collaboration, learning, and productivity.
- demonstrate personal responsibility in digital citizenship.
2. Use content-specific tools, software, and simulations to support learning. Students:
- learn basic office software, e-mail, Web browsers, and other productivity tools.
- simple web page design in the context of project presentations.
- use curriculum specific software for simulations, problem-solving, and concept mapping (e.g. Geometer's Sketchpad, Inspiration, etc).
3. Apply software and hardware tools to support collaboration and personal productivity throughout the Junior High Curriculum. Students:
- make effective use of the network Personal Folder and other resources.
- use e-mail and a web browser for assignments, communication, and presentation.
- select and use applications effectively and appropriately.
- use digital media such as forums, wikis and blogs for online learning and communication.
4. Design, create, and present products using technology resources that demonstrate and communicate curriculum concepts to multiple audiences. Students:
- synthesize and communicate ideas using digital media.
- produce original works as a means of personal or group expression.
- effectively use print and electronically produced images for a multimedia, digital collage or poster project.
5. Communication and Collaboration. Students use digital media tools to investigate real-world scenarios, contemporary issues, and other questions related to the curriculum. Students will:
- make use of teachers' web pages to communicate information and access class resources.
- use the Internet effectively for searching perspectives and subjects not heavily covered in print.
- use resources effectively from one assignment to the next.
- use networked personal and shared storage spaces.
6. Research and evaluate the accuracy and relevance of electronic information sources in the solution of real-world problems. Students:
- complete an advanced electronic library catalog search.
- research digital media effectively.
- process data and report results.
- plan and manage activities to develop a solution or complete a project.
- use a combination of guided and self-guided techniques to formulate an online search strategy.
