History

The technology program began in 1995 with the establishment of the Technology Department. A Director of Technology position was created and the emphasis of technology support transferred from the Library to the Technology Department. (Prior to 1995, the Library provided the computers and tech support to staff and students.) The program sought to build collaboration amongst all members of the school community, which it accomplished through the set-up of the school's network. Over the past ten years, the school has implemented a personal, shared, and secure computer network with storage that is accessible from any on- or off-campus computer. This provides the student and faculty bodies with the ability to communicate, collaborate, and complete assignments electronically.

The current network consists of 14 servers and over 500 workstations. Approximately 350 of these workstations are located directly in classrooms or in the Ahmanson Library. The network has a Gigabit Ethernet backbone, and the 8 Intermediate Distribution Frames are connected by gigabit switches while all network ports are switched Fast Ethernet connections.

10 classrooms have been redesigned to accommodate 18 to 32 computers each. These classrooms serve as technology rich environments for teachers who incorporate a large amount of technology in their curriculum. Mac Labs also exist for the Elementary, as well as Secondary Video Editing classes.

Troubleshooting is of primary importance to the department and there is always a tech support person in the lab to answer phones and on-site questions during operating hours. The Technology Department receives requests by e-mail which are also handled promptly.
