Goals

The Technology Department is dedicated to the maintenance and development of the school’s technology program. Since the different grade levels have different needs, capabilities, and applications of technology, the goals are grouped by school division.

The Following goals will be achieved for students completing grade 6.

  • I. Research—gathering information from electronic sources
  • Searching Strategies (search terms, finding text on a page)
  • Internet Ethics & Responsibility (Plagiarism, Cyber Safety)
  • Website Evaluation (credibility, accuracy)
  • Gathering Resources (text, images, video)

  • II. Analysis-Manipulating raw data (text, images, in different ways to create new insights
  • Creating tables and matrices
  • Creating charts and graphs

  • III. Communication-To share ideas with others, particularly with those beyond the classroom
  • Corresponding with e-pals in different cities, states and countries
  • Developing a PowerPoint show to add value to presentations
  • Creating diagrams to show process and relationships
  • Effectively using the CH web-based e-mail system
  • Creating flash-based commercials

  • IV. Productivity-Using technology to complete tasks in faster, more efficient, or more productive ways
  • Organizing files in personal folder
  • Typing Skills 30+ WPM
  • Using formulas to calculate and recalculate data

  • V. Creativity—Creating unique artifacts by applying principles of art and graphic design
  • Correcting & Enhancing Photos
  • Publishing Brochures & Posters
  • Creating Pop Art

These additional goals will be achieved for students completing grade 8.

  • Ability to exhibit legal and ethical behaviors when using technology
  • Ability to use content-specific tools, software, and simulations to support learning, collaboration, and personal productivity
  • Ability to design, develop, publish, and present products that demonstrate and communicate curriculum concepts to audiences inside and outside the classroom
  • Ability to investigate, propose, and communicate solutions to real-world problems, contemporary issues, and other questions related to the curriculum
  • Ability to research the accuracy of electronic information sources in the solution of real-world problems and their relevance to academic research
  • Ability to demonstrate the use of computer networks for productivity and problem solving

These additional goals will be achieved for students completing grade 12.

  • Ability to identify appropriate software and hardware solutions for addressing lifelong learning and workplace needs
  • Ability to understand the personal and societal impact of widespread use of technology information systems
  • Ability to use technology tools for academic and personal productivity in the areas of communication, schedules, purchases, correspondence, and finance
  • Ability to routinely use online information resources to collaborate, research, publish, communicate, and produce effectively
  • Abilty to select and apply technology tools for research, information analysis, problem solving, and decision making in proposing solutions to real-world problems
  • Ability to contribute to dynamic content-related knowledge base for the solution of real-world problems using technology to compile, produce, and disseminate information
  • Ability to design and publish original works as a means of personal or group expression
