Ahmanson Library

The technologically-rich Ahmanson Library is designed to serve the K-12 school community with print, Internet, and multimedia resources including access to the online catalog and subscription online databases. The collection is dynamic, current, and curriculum-based. The 7,000 square foot library’s print resources include nearly 10,000 fiction books, more than 17,000 non-fiction titles, and both print and online periodicals. Library collections for elementary and secondary school students are located in separate areas for ease of use and access for both the older and younger students. Students are able to find curriculum-related print and electronic materials on primary, elementary, and secondary levels of understanding. Computers; printers; scanners; cassette, video, CD, and DVD players; and a photocopier are available for educational purposes.

In addition to the catalog and online subscription databases, the library’s web pages also provide access to a MLA bibliographic citation guide, book suggestions and reviews, research pathfinders for class projects, and more. Librarians teach information literacy, research and reading skills. Collaboration with classroom teachers further supports students’ learning. Individualized guidance for recreational reading is combined with an elementary reading computer program, booktalks, displays, and other activities to encourage a lively reading community.

In a special storytelling room, elementary students can watch a puppet show, listen to a visiting author presentation, or let their imaginations take flight as their favorite tales are read aloud by a librarian. In addition to study areas, secondary students enjoy a comfortable seating area for relaxation, reading and conversation. Parents and students are welcome to browse and check out books and other materials from the library. Parents of elementary students are encouraged to visit the library before and after school with their children.
