Spanish
The study of Spanish begins in the 3rd grade with the introduction of sounds and basic vocabulary that includes the alphabet, numbers, colors, and calendar. Study of vocabulary and grammatical structures expands in the 4th grade, including regular and irregular verbs, syntax, and oral communication. The 5th and 6th grade curricula continue to develop a basic understanding of Spanish and emphasize verbal, auditory, and written communicative skills. During the elementary program in 3rd-6th grade, short plays, fairy tales, cooking, songs, dance, utilization of computer programs, and various cultural projects provide additional opportunities to explore the Spanish language and Hispanic culture.
