The computer science program enhances classroom curriculum while preparing students for the 21st century learning environment. The learning of basic computer operations and functions as well as typing skills and researching on the Internet are essential to the technology curriculum. Students utilize publishing software to create illustrations, reports, and multimedia presentations. Students are expected to be responsible digital citizens and practice appropriate netiquette.

In both primary and intermediate grades, students develop their research skills by learning to locate and evaluate information and websites. After compiling, processing, and analyzing research, students present their findings in the form of illustrations, reports, charts, diagrams, and multimedia presentations. Additionally, students are required to cite sources used for each project.

The primary grades focus on basic computer operation skills, input/output devices and keyboarding. Assignments using illustration software, word processing, and other applications give students the opportunity to practice and apply their acquired skills.

In the intermediate grades, students continue to develop their typing skills by increasing their speed and accuracy. Experiences with both the PC and Mac platforms will develop students’ understanding and knowledge of both operating systems. Using Moodle as a tool for instruction, collaboration, and sharing of information gives students firsthand experience with Web 2.0 applications.
