Diversity
Background
As an Episcopal school, Campbell Hall is committed to fostering a community that honors the God-given diversity of the human experience. We believe race, ethnicity, religion, culture, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, ability, and socioeconomic status to be examples of what constitutes diversity in our community. As the demographics of our local, national, and global communities continue to evolve and change, we are mindful of our call and educational imperative to prepare students to serve as citizens of the world in the 21st century. We also relish the vast educational opportunities for spiritual growth that the broadening of our horizons may offer.
GOAL THREE:
Cultivate and sustain a safe environment that empowers individuals and groups to discover and celebrate their identity and purpose as we strive to build and support an open and inclusive community dedicated to the principle of respect.
Suggestions for implementation: Click on each implementation step for a current progress report
- Develop and integrate a diversity component into the larger professional development programs for faculty, staff, administration, trustees, and the PTC Board to education training in multicultural literacy and anti-bias training. Include – and learn from – the voices of our students in that ongoing training.
- Cultivate opportunities to review and transform the K-12th grade curriculum as it relates to the ideals of social justice, education equity, and developing global citizens.
- Continue to consolidate practices and standards for collecting, interpreting, and presenting data concerning diversity in admissions, enrollment, and in the faculty, staff, and administration.
- Expand programs and strategies for recruiting and retaining a constituency (both students and faculty) that draws from the diversity of the greater Los Angeles area and the global community in key respects, such as race and ethnicity. At the same time, be clear in what ways Campbell Hall is (and should remain) different from the larger community (e.g., Campbell Hall constituents almost universally value faith-based living and spiritual transformation).
- Seek ways to further name, assess, cultivate and celebrate the variety of human intelligences.
- Expand further the school’s financial aid resources, endowment, and support services to attract to the school and better serve under-represented families.
- Deepen the community’s investment and understanding of diversity through existing communication resources and programs, including parent education programs.
- Investigate community partnerships, service programs, and educational trips that promote a greater understanding of and appreciation for diversity.
